Exciting News: RMCS Receives Conditional Approval!

We’re thrilled to share that Rocky Mountain Charter School (RMCS) has received conditional approval from Alberta Education to open as a K–12 public charter school!

This marks a major milestone in our journey to offer innovative, student-centered programming rooted in Health & Wellness , Sustainable Agriculture , and Global Technology . Our curriculum features STEAM-based learning, locally developed courses from Kindergarten through Grade 12, and credentialed programming for high school students.

With this approval, we are moving forward with preparations to welcome our first students in September 2025 . We are currently accepting registrations for Kindergarten to Grade 9 , with high school enrollment opening soon.

We’re grateful for the support of our community, partners, and the Rocky Mountain Charter School Foundation Board. Stay tuned for updates as we continue building an exciting future for students across Alberta.

FIRST HEALTH & WELLNESS CHARTER SCHOOL PROGRAM IN CALGARY

Food health is such an important factor for growing young students. The body and mind rely heavily on nutrient-rich foods in the development of cognitive function and physical strength.

It’s time to share food health information with the youngsters

Young people are regularly told that candy and chips are not good for you. They can cause cavities and stomach aches - but what is really happening to their bodies as a result of the intake of highly processed foods? More and more research studies are revealing the detrimental affects that highly processed foods have on the human body. These effects are immediate, in the case of delayed cognitive function, as well as long term leading to increase heart and brain disease. It is no coincidence that our society is facing a healthcare crisis one generation after these types of foods became staples in the average household.

It is time that young people become aware of these effects before they require healthcare intervention as a result of prolonged intake of highly processed foods. If taught at an early age for a prolonged period of time, young people will have the opportunity to make food choices that nourish their minds and bodies. The Rocky Mountain Charter School Foundation has taken on this endeavour to give young people that opportunity.

Four-Pronged Approach to Learning

A teacher is meant to be a guide to support students in their pursuit of knowledge. The teacher-student relationship is an invaluable element in a school setting and our Foundation is determined to provide the means to nurture it. Our approach to learning will expand that relationship to include families and the community. This type integrative system where students can rely on their teachers, peers, families, and the community to gain knowledge and resources, students will retain more knowledge and applicable skills for the long-term.

Teachers and Professional Development

This type of school model will surely benefit students and their families. We also believe that teachers and staff will benefit from professional development in food and physical health. As teachers learn more about their own health goals and best practices, they will be able to transfer that experience to students and provide strong guidance.

Cognitive and Physical Health

Cognitive health and physical health are interdependent. Both require nourishment through healthy food intake and determination to improve. We intend to provide the means for students to access healthy food and regular physical activity while at school. This will include using the Alberta Program of Studies as a guide for learning as well as implementing a food program for students while at school. The RMCSF is determined to provide a holistic school experience for all stakeholders and will take steps to secure the resources necessary to accomplish this.

What is the Family Interest Form?

The Family Interest Form allows families to express interest in Rocky Mountain Charter School while RMCSF continues its work to secure an appropriate school facility. The information collected will help RMCSF understand anticipated student and grade-level demand and communicate relevant future school information to interested families.

The Family Interest Form is not a registration or enrolment form and does not guarantee admission or placement at Rocky Mountain Charter School. Formal registration will begin only after a school facility and opening date have been confirmed.

If your family is interested in Rocky Mountain Charter School, please complete the Family Interest Form. Families who express interest will be able to receive future updates as information about the school’s facility, opening date and registration process becomes available.
